MEN’S FISHING CLUB NEWS

I am sorry for not sending reports on our last fishing trips, so here are the updates.

On September 18th we sailed on the Dauntless sailing out of Point Pleasant NJ for a day of fishing for Sea Bass and Porgies. Aboard were 6 Regency Fishing Club members. The day was warm and beautiful and we sailed north past Asbury Park in about 30 feet of water. Fishing was great catching mostly Porgies and a limited amount of Sea Bass. It was a great day to be on the water, all had a great time.

The next trip was October 8th, Columbus Day, again we sailed aboard the Dauntless pleasure in watching our grandchildren having a great time.  It was a pleasure in watching our grandchildren having a great time. We got back to the dock at 4:00 the kids were very tired but had a day to remember.

Our next trip was October 29th aboard the Ocean Explorer sailing out of Belmar, NJ with four Fishing Club members aboard, for a day of Sea Bass and Porgy fishing. This time the boat sailed east for over one hour to the deep wrecks and 90 feet of water. The weather was cool and windy with 2′ to 3′ foot waves when we got into the ocean. Once we got to the fishing grounds it was very windy with 5′ to 6′ seas. The boat would drop two anchors to keep the boat stable and the waves went from bow to stern instead of side to side. Immediately we were all catching large humpback Porgies and Seabass, we had continuous action almost all day. There were some Winter Flounder and Blackfish also caught. We got back to the dock after 4:00, and we were really tired. Another successful trip for the Regency Fishing Club.

On November 4th we sailed on one of our members, Stan Salinski’s 32′ Cabo. Sailing out of Morgan Creek, NJ for a day of trolling for Striped Bass with five aboard. The reports were that the Striped Bass finally arrived after the last new moon. We started to troll with two rods in the Raritan River, starting off Great Kills Harbor, SI,NY in 25′ to 30′ of water with umbrella rigs with white rubber shads. The fish finder was showing schools of bunker, a baitfish and below them were loads of Striped Bass. Many boats were also trolling but no one were catching much. We lucked out after 1 1/2 hours we hooked our first bass. When we got it aboard it weighed 37lbs. We continued to troll and only caught four short bass about 22″ and let them go. We waited for the tide to change and we left the fleet and headed southeast out to sea, to an area between the channels, Sandy Hook Channel and Ambrose Channel. Again we marked a lot of Bass and schools of bunker, starting our troll with umbrella rigs. Once the current picked up, though the fish really weren’t active, we managed to catch one Bass weighing 38lbs. and three Bass 30″ about 10lbs. It was a day you really had to work for the fish. We returned to the dock at 4:30.

This was the end of the northern fishing season for the Regency Fishing Club. Many of us are heading to Florida for the winter and we will run trips aboard the Black Dog sailing out of Jupiter, FL for 1/2 day bottom fishing on the local reefs. We catch at least 12 different species of fish during each trip. Anyone interested in joining us e-mail me at markklein88@yahoo.com or call me at 732-991-8264

I would like to wish all our residents a very Happy and Healthy New Year as well as a Happy Chanakah and a Merry Christmas. Have a safe winter and join us on our trips next year.

Mark Klein

Correction on Fishing Club report

The next trip was October 8th, Columbus Day, again we sailed aboard the Dauntless with 4 members aboard, plus my two oldest grandchildren Dylan 12 and Tegan 10 from PA as well as Billy Taylor’s grandson 11. We sailed north and fished in about 30″ of water. The kids had a super time catching loads of fish mostly Porgies mixed with many Sea Bass. Tegan held her own and must have caught over 30 fish. Being able to fish with your grandchildren is fantastic, we could care less if we fished, we took great pleasure in watching our grandchildren having a great time. We got back to the dock at 4:00 the kids were very tired but had a day to remember.

Thank You To Our Friends and Neighbors

Caryl and I wish to thank our friends and neighbors who made donations to the National Kidney Foundation.

Your support helped us and Team Paul (our son) raise over $25,000 for this year’s Kidney Walk. The entire walk this year raised over 1 million dollars for research and improving public awareness about kidney disease. Hope we can top that number next year.

Thanks again!

DEER ALERT

Just a note to let you know that deer have been seen in Regency.  Believe me, I know what deer can do.  In Manalapan, Greta” car was hit on the side by a deer and just outside Regency, my daughter’s car was hit on 522.  She also got hit by a deer on Union Hill Road near our other home and the deer tried jumping over the car but instead landed on her windshield and broke it little pieces.  The deer was injured and she told the police that the deer went into the woods.  All of a sudden she heard a shot.  They shot the deer

The British Invasion Years Concert — to benefit Temple B’nai Shalom

Celebrate the sounds of the 60s when The British Invasion Years, a nostalgic musical tribute band, performs in East Brunswick on Saturday, November 17 at 8:00 PM. All proceeds will benefit Temple B’nai Shalom.

More than just the Beatles, this nostalgic musical tribute spans the entire 60s British Invasion era with music from BOTH sides of the Atlantic, and is three acts in one:

  • The first act includes songs by iconic British groups such as The Zombies, Dave Clark Five, The Rolling Stones, The Hollies, Herman’s Hermits, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Manfred Mann and many others.
  • The American Response follows, with music by such legendary artists as The Monkees, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, The Mamas and The Papas, The Turtles, Paul Revere & The Raiders, to name just a few.
  • This journey through the 1960s concludes with a finale with songs from the four lads that started it all – The Beatles! The band says: “When we came up with the idea for a finale, we posed the question, ‘What if the Beatles had to perform their music today as the four-piece band they were?’. The result is truly astounding.”

The group has shared the stage with legendary artists such as The Beach Boys, Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band, Leon Russell, and many more.Tickets are $30 (plus a small processing fee to the ticketing agent) if prepaid prior to November 14th, or $35 at the door.  They can be purchased online here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-british-invasion-years-concert-tickets-50566284117

Light refreshments will be available. Temple B’nai Shalom is located at 15 Fern Road in East Brunswick, NJ.

Regency Ethnic-Restaurant-Eat-Around (EREA)

Will Visit  Southeast Asia in Freehold NJ

By Marty Feldman

My BR life, before retirement, took me all over the world. Some of my best memories came from trips to Southeast Asia. Therefore I was thrilled to learn of a BYOB restaurant opening locally that features the cuisine I so enjoy.

That is why I have arranged for the next EREA dinner, on November 11th to take place at that Southeast Asian restaurant. The menu will comprise dishes featuring the cuisines of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. A variety of appetizers, and entrees will be served and will offer a brief but satisfying introduction into the above mentioned cuisines.

The EREA is open to all Regency residents, with no membership fee, no commitments other than to the dinners you wish to participate in.

If you are interested and would like to participate, please call

LETS TALK TURKEY 2018

While still enjoying the last days of summer, the Regency Culture Club is looking ahead to fall. We are gearing up for our annual Ten for Turkey Drive. As the holidays draw near, turkeys will be absent from many households.

The Regency Culture Club supports our community by assisting the Monroe Township Office on Aging Holiday Food Basket Drive. We are once again turning to our friends and neighbors and requesting each household makes a minimum donation of $10.00 so that we can put a turkey on the table to complete the holiday picture for many township families.

One turkey goes a long way in providing a number of meals. And the bones, oh those bones make a great soup.

Your generosity over the past 14 years that we have been collecting Ten for Turkeys is much appreciated. Your support is urgently needed once again. Help make a difference in the lives of our township neighbors in need.

Please make your checks payable to the Regency Culture Club and leave them in the mailbox of Milt & Sue Paris at 25 Crenshaw Ct, Ken & Joan Kastin 10 Harbor Town Way, Sue Miller 19 Torrey Pines, Barry & Laura Shandler 10 Hogan , Marsha Krane 16 Country Club Drive, Jim & Sue Graham 13 Ballybunion, Marge Weinberg 17 Tamarack Road, Sandy and Larry Cains 94 Kings Mill Road
