REGENCY AT MONROE – NEWS UPDATE – JANUARY 6, 2018

I STAND CORRECTED – MUNICIPAL ACTIONS OR INACTIONS CAN LEAD TO INCREASES IN OUR TAXES

When the township’s Master Plan was drawn up, approximately 3500 homes would be built. They haven’t all been built but you can see why our school system would need money for additional students that will fill some of these housing units.

As we know now, our school system will be building 2 new schools (one at a time) and adding on to our High School. What does this mean?  Yes, more money from us.  So no matter what we get back under the new Federal Tax Plan, like the expression states, “in one hand and out the other”.

Does our Mayor have a responsibility in finding ways of dealing with our increases in the number of students and the cost of building new schools? Sure he does.  He was the “Architect” of the Master Plan.  So the “Architect” has to develop a new Master Plan that will slow down growth of homes in our Township.  When I attended some of these township meetings, a discussion took place that basically said the the minimum lots for building a home would be a minimum of a few acres.  This makes sense.  You would have maybe 2-3 kids in a home like this versus 50 kids in townhomes or condos.

Then at a meeting I attended in the former Mayor’s conference room where Linda Greenstein was present, it was brought up that builders should provide money for education depending upon an estimate of how many kids would be in the homes that the builder is building. This is something that is being done in other states. All we do is approve building and builders just pocket the profits.  It is time for them to give back to the community money necessary to deal with education.

So in 2018 Mayor Tamburro and Governor Murphy, we ask you to do something about the builder issues that costs residents to build more schools. We ask you to provide a fairness to the amount of money that the State provides Monroe Township in School Aid.  We ask you to begin thinking of how to LOWER all of our taxes because we are part of the 5 States that have the highest taxes within the US.

I know one thing, I’m not going to sit back and do nothing regarding changing the current system so that residents don’t have to pay as much as we are paying in taxes. I’m also not going to wait for Linda Greenstein, to fulfill her promises that she made many years ago.  You got elected again on promises.  NO MORE WAITING!
