EMAILER MESSAGES – JANUARY 27, 2018

SENIOR FREEZE ELIGIBILITY

Okay, it’s time for me to repeat what I wrote regarding the senior freeze eligibility. If your TOTAL INCOME reported on your 2016 and 2017 taxes is less than  $70,000 for each year you might be eligible for a SENIOR FREEZE on your PROPERTY TAXES.  Yes, you have to wait until you do your 2017 taxes to see if you meet this requirement.  Unfortunately, for those residents who had a TOTAL INCOME less than $70,000 in years 2015 and 2016, sorry, the filing deadline date was in October 2017.

Now, if you did report less than the $70,000 you can click on the following link and read all about the freeze:

http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/questions/ssq.shtml

The new forms will be available in March 2018, so if you feel you are eligible just call and ask for the forms. The first time, 2 forms are required. Thereafter, only one form.  My suggestion, speak with your accountant.  Maybe he might be able to fill out the forms for you.

So how much will you be entitled too? The answer is, they will freeze your property taxes and you will never have to pay any increase.  This might even be a win/win situation since the federal tax reform will not exceed $10,000 so the freeze will not add more taxes that aren’t deductible on your federal tax form.   How important is this freeze.  Well, didn’t we hear that we need some new schools and some renovation of an existing school.  Whatever is added to your property taxes for these new schools, you will not have to pay.

REMEMBER, AS I STATED, NO MORE POLITICAL STATEMENTS. THIS ISSUE IS AN ECONOMIC ISSUE  THAT HOPEFULLY MANY OF YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE.  IF YOU ARE CLOSE TO THE MAXIMUM, HOPEFULLY YOUR ACCOUNTANT WILL FIND WAYS OF KEEPING YOU UNDER THE MAXIMUM
