LETTER FROM SENATOR SWEENEY REGARDING STATE SCHOOL FUNDING (SOUNDS PROMISING)
Dear Mr. Klein:
Thank you for your email regarding the school funding challenges faced in New Jersey.
As you noted, at present, many school districts receive more than 100 percent of the state aid called for under the existing formula established in the School Funding Reform Act of 2008, while many other school districts receive far less because of clauses that hamper its proper implementation, and continual underfunding during the tenure of Governor Christie’s administration. As a result, the burden for making up the discrepancies created falls squarely on the taxpayer. My colleagues and I have taken a number of steps to address these inequities.
Most recently, I introduced legislation, which was passed by the Senate, that will help to reestablish an equitable funding formula. Senate Resolution 100 created a special committee of the New Jersey State Senate entitled the “Senate Select Committee on School Funding Fairness.” The Committee held a number of hearings and took considerable testimony from residents, school officials, and elected officials across the state. Based on all the testimony we heard, my colleagues and I are working to develop legislation designed to bring all districts back to 100 percent of the funding levels established under the SFRA, which will be presented to both houses. By using this method we are working to ensure that any proposal is thoroughly researched and considered, and is based upon input from all parties.
Please be assured, this matter is a priority for me. I will continue to work with all parties to make certain that each district is funded fairly, according to need, and that each child has the opportunity to succeed. Thank you again for contacting me.
Sincerely,
Steve Sweeney
Senate President

UPDATE OF WHAT IS HAPPENING REGARDING THE STATE’S SCHOOL AID FOR MONROE TOWNSHIP.
Well, it’s the same old story. Our politicians, GREENSTEIN, DeANGELO and BENSON are telling us that they are working on it. I think after about 10 years, the same story, “we’re working on it” should be changed to something else. Oh did I say “changed”. Yes, in order for us to have some chance with the State funding our schools properly, we must “change”, in the upcoming election, who we vote for and basically GREENSTEIN, DeANGELO and BENSON must be voted out of office.
A large group of Adult Communities are now onboard to make this change. This November’s election is one in which if you sit back and do nothing, well, be prepared to pay, whatever the cost would be, to fund two new schools.
One further reminder, if you earned less than $87,000 last year, you may be eligible for a SENIOR TAX FREEZE. Click on this link for more information.
http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/questions/senior-freeze.shtml
If you are eligible then fill out PR-1.
For a fee, are their accountants in Regency who are willing to help residents fill out the PR-1 and maybe the PR-2 forms? If so, let me know what your fee will be. We have until October 1st to submit the form(s). Imagine, with a little work, freezing your taxes and never getting the hundreds of dollars increase in property taxes.
You would have to add up income from Social Security, income from your IRA that requires a minimum withdrawal each year after a certain age, selling stocks which you make a profit on and maybe some other income investments that you make money on. Again, if it is less than $87,000 (which you would see on your 2015 tax form) you might be eligible.
Guess What? Play for P.I.N.K. is back!
Over the past few years, the Women’s Golf League has sponsored Play for P.I.N.K. activities. Residents of our generous community, while having a very good time participating in these activities, raised more than $60,000 to support Breast Cancer Research. Let’s do it again! Let’s Play for P.I.N.K. (Prevention, Immediate Diagnosis, New Technology and Knowledge) and help eliminate this terrible disease.
There is going to be a Play for Pink Luncheon (with raffles) on Wednesday, October 18, so save the date! Be on the lookout for news of other Play for Pink activities that will occur during the month of October 2017 — details to follow…
RON’S MUSIC ON MY WEBSITE
More songs were just added. Unfortunately as I add songs it won’t be in alphabetical order by the group or singer. I think eventually my list of 50’s , 60’s and 70’s songs will be a few thousand. I’ve received a few picture from residents to add to my NAMES AND FACES list. They have been added so send me your picture. I have about 500 more pictures of Regency to add.
