REGENCY AT MONROE – NEWS UPDATE – JANUARY 13, 2018

OUR MONROE SCHOOLS – HERE WE GO AGAIN!

Yes, our Board of Ed is in need of one Middle school now, another school after this one is built and refurbishing of existing school(s).

As we all know, the approved Federal Tax Law might not have a positive impact on residents living in about 5 States. Of course, NJ is included.

The new school referendum will be discussed at various places and residents will be told that a new Middle school is needed for Monroe Twp. Once this school is built, then expect another referendum since another school is needed and let’s not forget that money is needed to pay for the refurbishing of other schools.

You don’t have to be a genius to figure out who is going to pay for all the schools and refurbishing. YES WE ARE!!

For those residents who are new to Monroe Township let me tell you what happened when we asked for a New High School. We were told that this new High School (which we called the Taj Mahal of HS) would cost $120 million.  The voters, voted it down.  The following year, only $80 million was asked for and it got approved.  But guess what, since we waited one year, the price of building the HS went up $40 million so we paid the $120 million that voters said NO too at the beginning.

Of course the Board of Ed is going to say that since we are overcrowded we would have to rent trailers like we did in the past and this would cost us a lot of money. Honestly, I really don’t care how much trailers would cost us vs building a new school.  I care more about what we will be doing to offset the cost of building new schools.  Let the Board of Ed, the Mayor, the Governor, our Senator, our Congressman tell us what they are going to do to offset our costs.

Now let me tell you what needs to be done before we spend a nickel on building new schools:

  • The Mayor must change our Master Plan and in doing so, increase the lot sizes of homes. It would be better to have lots sizes 5 acres (which had been discussed) and only one home to be built on this acreage vs. 20 homes that would occupy the 5 acres. We would reduce the number of kids going to our schools
  • We (Senator Greenstein) and others, including myself, met in Mayor Pucci’s office many years ago and we discussed that other states charge builders for education based upon the averages of the number of kids that would be added to the community by their building of homes.

  • Senator Greenstein and Congressman DeAngelo and Benson, won there election based upon promises that they would deal with the inadequate and unfair practices of how much the State reimburses Monroe Twp for each kid going to our schools.

  • The State should provide the same type of funding they did for Freehold Twp when Freehold Twp wanted to build a new school. I’m not sure if it was Freehold Twp or Freehold that got MULTI MILLIONS of dollars for a new school.

  • Our new Governor should be contacted and asked to look into the unfairness of how Monroe Townhip is being treated with regard to State Aid for education.

  • I am not sure if Jamesburg is now providing us with the proper reimbursement of their students. If they aren’t then let Jamesburg build their own schools or ask another Township to educate their kids.

  • There are townships that provide seniors, 65 and older, with property tax reimbursement for not sending kids to schools. I believe Manalapan gives seniors $500 off their tax bills (not 100% sure). Seniors do want kids to be educated but to pay the full share, this must be looked at. Seniors are mostly on fixed incomes. Our increase in Social Security is almost 0%. Whereas, most of those residents who are still working do receive increases annually in their salaries.

  • What programs can be eliminated to save money? What kind of downsizing can be done to save money? When I was asked by the President of my hospital to cut 10% off my budget, I couldn’t tell him that this was impossible. Naturally anything dealing with the care of patients couldn’t be cut, but non essential things were cut to give him the 10% he wanted.

Am I being unreasonable? Am I asking for things that make no sense?  It is so easy just to ask for millions of dollars vs trying to do things that would possibly lower our costs.

Linda Greenstein for 10 years has promised us that she will deal with the State regarding our State Aid for Education. We are getting a new Governor so it is time to hold her accountable.  It is time for our relatively new Mayor to tell us what he is doing to lower the cost to seniors with regard to our paying more money for education.

Maybe he should include a referendum in our next election offering seniors a $500 refund for education. Hello, Regency and other adult communities.  It was Mayor Pucci who decided to make Monroe Twp the nesting place for seniors.  Why?  Isn’t it obvious?  We send nobody to schools but we pay the way for it anyway.  By the way, this backfired on Pucci because the State’s formula takes into consideration that we are paying and we don’t send kids to schools.

So how do I stand on the Referendum. VOTE IT DOWN until we get positive news that some of the things I wrote about will be done.  If we vote for it, then watch more of your friends and neighbors having to move to another State that doesn’t tax residents like NJ.  I am asking those of you who receive my emails who live in other adult communities to ask your HOA or Emailer, to copy my email and send it out to your community.  As I have always stated, UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL.

PRIOR AUTHORIZATION ON PRESCRIPTIONS

I had discussed in one of my prior emails something called PRIOR AUTHORIZATION. This deals with medications that your insurance company might have changed the status of one of your medications whereby you are now paying the full cost.

I was notified that one of my medications that for a 3 month supply was going from $60 to $400. First I asked my doctor to contact the company to ask for Prior Authorization for this drug.  He did so but it was denied.

Once you receive the denial, you can appeal the decision. The appeal is simple.  All you do is write the reasons why you MUST be on this drug. The key points you need to include in your appeal letter are:

  • You used the other drugs that they are recommending and it didn’t work
  • You have been using the new drug that is being denied and the results were fantastic. It has controlled the medical problem without any negative side effects
  • I am very sensitive to medications. Substituting a drug therapeutically vs generically can lead into serious sensitivity problems which can be a major problem.
  • My physician was extremely happy with the results I am achieving with this drug so why should I chance taking something else. Isn’t it the goal of your company to make sure your patients are given the right drugs that have been proven to do well vs taking a chance on some other drugs which can lead to problems

NEVER GIVE UP

A THANK YOU MESSAGE FROM LESLIE SCHOEN

No matter where you are, the Regency community will always find you with kind words and prayers.

Thank you for your cards and emails during this sad time in my life.

Regency is a very special community filled with wonderful, caring people

Thank you all- much love

A THANK YOU MESSAGE FROM KATHY SOFFER

I was so overwhelmed by the loving kindness, encouragement and support I received after my heart surgery in December; those who offered to shop for me and new friends who sent me an edible arrangement.

There is much love here if we open up to it. That is my experience. As with any complex surgery it takes time to heal and begin the momentum of life once again. Thus I am in the healing mode, taking naps when necessary and creating peaceful and calming days for myself.

I am hoping that come February I can start teaching canasta again so if you want to learn call me. Thanks again and I wish wellness and well being to all.

A RESIDENT’S EMAIL

A resident sent me an email which shows that there are definitely nice people living in this world.

He lost his wallet somewhere within Monroe Twp. It had his credit cards and about $85 in cash.  Naturally he was very upset because identity theft was rampant and he didn’t want to become a victim.

One day he received in the mail his wallet with all the credit cards. The cash was missing but we agreed that it wasn’t taken by the person who mailed him his wallet.  He wants to thank the person who sent it to him because there was no return address.
