REGENCY AT MONROE – NEWS UPDATE – DECEMBER 23, 2017

ARE YOU A VETERAN?  IF SO, YOU CAN BE ELIGIBLE FOR A $3000 EXEMPTION ON YOUR NJ TAXES

New for 2017 is an additional $3,000 Exemption Allowance for Veterans. To qualify, you must have served in the military and received an  honorable discharge. I have attached the Form you need to complete and forward to the address with a copy of your DD-214 or comparable discharge paper issued prior to 1950. Most veterans are already registered with the State through the Real Estate Property Tax Deduction of $250.00.  You can call also 609-292-6400, option 4.  I did and after a reasonable wait, they verified I am registered and nothing further had to be done.”

(EMAILER’S NOTE:  MY THANKS TO A RESIENT AND A FORMER RESIDENT WHO SENT ME THIS INFORMATION.  I’LL KEEP TRYING TO SAVE RESIDENTS MONEY EVEN THOUGH SOMETIMES IT DOESN’T WORK OUT)

SAVING MONEY ON YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS

I always look towards saving residents money on various things we all need or use.  Even though I was a Director of Pharmacy at a Medical Center, I did spend a little time in retail and knew about certain things that can be done to save patients money.

I want to thank a resident who provided me with information that filled in some blank areas I wasn’t too familiar with.

Recently I received a notice that one of my medications is coming off the insurance companies Formulary.  It will go from $60 for 3 months of medications to close to $400 for the 3 months starting January 1, 2018.  Of course my refill for the prescription cannot be ordered before January 3, 2018.  This was simple to handle.  I called my pharmacy and told them to speak with my insurance company to get a VACATION OVERRIDE on my prescription.  So they allowed me to fill it before 2018 at my old co-pay.

Now for dealing with a drug that falls off their Formulary because, they would rather pay for other drugs that cost less.  This becomes a challenge because you and your physician must get involved.  You have your physician call for PRIOR AUTHORIZATION. With the drug I was on, my insurance company gave me a list of other drugs to use.  Honestly, my use of these types of drugs was started when I was a teenager so I used practically every drug mentioned.  There are times that the drug will stop working and at these times a new drug must take it’s place.  I explained it to the insurance company and I was told they will fax a PRIOR AUTHORIZATION FORM to my physician’s office and to get this worked on immediately, he should write on the top 2018 REVIEW PRO ACTIVE.  Basically this is an appeal of the first form being denied.

Based upon what I told the insurance company, he felt that by writing what I mentioned, I should get approval and it would last one year and I would be paying $60/3months vs. $400/3months.  I would say this is a good savings.  Most importantly, don’t give up if you receive a denial.  Always appeal and make sure you have a good reason why you need this drug vs another drug.  In my case, this new drug worked perfectly and prevented me from having some serious problems.  Like I told the insurance company, should I stop a drug that I used for 6 months that cured me of a problem vs start a new drug that I can go back to the seriousness of what I have?  No insurance company would want to be held liable for problems associated with their denying a medication that works.

The key point to make is having your doctor indicate that you have used all the other alternatives and nothing worked.  He should list some of the alternatives that you may have used.  Then have him say that this drug is working exceptional well.

Good Luck

SNOWBIRDS, I FEEL SO BAD THAT THERE IS NO MORE SNOWBIRD RATE FROM COMCAST BUT READ THIS AND MAYBE YOU CAN SAVE MONEY BY DOING THIS.

I would like to thank my friend who lives in another adult community for sending me this information.  My emails extend out to other adult communities and we all learn from each other.

So here’s what snowbirds can do:

I saved in another way when I came down to Florida and I am sure others could benefit. I would guess most people have 2 cars. I only take one of my two cars to Florida, so I take off the insurance on the other car that I leave home (minus comprehension, which in my case is $26.00 per month this is in case the cars is stolen or a fire) I save $300.00 for the winter.

Saving our Regency residents money is what I enjoy the most.  Frankly, in 16 years of doing the Emailing this is the first time I heard about this.  So maybe many of you don’t do it.  I;m not sure if my friend stays in Florida for only 3 months.  If you stay in Florida for 6 months, you can double his savings.

I’M ON A ROLL WITH COST SAVINGS SO HERE IS SOMETHING THE “NEWBEES” SHOULD KNOW

Many years ago we had a Purchasing Group that was started here at Regency.  We added other adult communities to this Group.  One of the things I was involved with was HOME SECURITY.  Well I found out that most of the home security companies use ALARM RELAY.  ALARM RELAY is a company that deals with commercial and residential security and the “middlemen” use them to do home security.  Why pay a middleman?  So I worked out a deal with ALARM RELAY that they charge us $8.99/month vs prices of $15-$25/month from the “middlemen”.

They said for every customer I give them I will receive $25.  I told them that I would be hung by a tree if I accepted this.  So I told them to give this $25 back to the homeowner who signs up.  I believe Regency has around 500+ homes with ALARM RELAY.  Not one problem and when there was a problem, we get the calls from them and sometimes they even follow up the next day.

PREPAYING YOUR PROPERTY TAXES

As I mentioned, make sure you contact your accountant to determine if prepaying your 2 quarters of 2018 is beneficial for you.  My accountant told me that I should.  But what is good for me might not be good for you.

Many residents have written me that they also were advised by their accountant to prepay their property tax.  What I would like to know, so that I can put it into a future email (no names will be used) is when you make out your taxes with your accountant ask him how much of a savings was it by your prepaying your taxes?

WAIT TIL THE SUNSHINES NELLIE AND LOOK FOR OUR TWO RESIDENTS WHO WERE ON TV YESTERDAY

They were on yesterday on CNBC.  The picture came out blurry because, who really wants to look at these guys.  So in the front center (to the right of the big guy with the black suit, is none other than BOBBI BERNSTEIN.  Now look directly behind him in the back.  The guy with the glasses and grey hair is non other than JERRY SCOTT.  I was going to make a video of them singing but Regency, suffice it to say only one of us needed to suffer listening to them sing.

THAT’S IT FOR NOW
