Sign-up for our April 23rd bus trip to Longwood Gardens begins Tuesday, March 16th. Our day includes a self-guided tour of the Gardens and then onto Kennett Square for lunch on your own and shopping. $45. RSVP to Harriet DiSalle, 102 Turnberry Drive. Envelopes will be opened at the end of the day. If the trip is overbooked we will use the lottery method by randomly selecting envelopes. Only 2 checks per envelope please. Dr. Anish A. Sheth.
Dr. Sheth is a graduate of Brown University and Brown Medical School. His internship was at University of Pennsylvania. His residency at the University of Pennsylvania. His fellowship at Yale University. He was an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the University School of Medicine at Yale and is currently co-medical director of the Center for Digestive Health at the University Medical Center of Princeton. He is also Director of the Esophageal program at the Medical Center of Princeton. Dr. Sheth has been a contributor on the Rachel Ray Show, Good Morning America, ABC News, as well as FOX News and many others. He has written 3 books; “What’s your poo telling you?”, ”What’s your pee telling you?” and “The Unconstipated Gourmet”. Dr. Sheth is the Gastroenterologist of a number of Regency Men’s Club members. Dr. Sheth will be discussing GERD and colorectal cancer followed by an interactive “Jepoardy-style” game to test you GI health.

The Regency Ethnic-Restaurant-Eat-Around Club(EREA) Will Visit Mongolia For A Mongolian Fire Pot Dinner And Never Leave The County

Whether you call it Chinese hot pot, Mongolian fire pot, Shabu-Shabu or Swiss meat fondue, it all refers to cooking your food yourself, on your table in the broth of your choice and having lots of fun. The idea is a thousand years old dating to the Mongol invaders cooking their meals in water boiling in their metal helmets over open fires.
My initial experience with Mongolian fire pot occurred over 40 years ago when Flora and I were guests in the home of one of my colleagues, Peter Shen. Peter and his wife served us fire pot in their traditional equipment, brought by them from China; an intricately decorated chimney over a heated charcoal bed surrounded by a broth-filled bowl around the chimney and heated to a boil.
Raw thinly sliced meats, various vegetables and Asian greens, mushrooms, tofu, etc. were placed in front of us, and with the skewers and chopsticks provided we each cooked our preferred little bites of food. A variety of sauces, also on the table provided different dipping opportunities to customize the taste of each bite. The broth used was a chicken stock to which herbs and spices had been added for flavor and each skewer of food imparted additional flavor to the broth which continuously concentrated as water boiled off. Additional broth was added periodically to allow for further cooking.
The meal ended by the richly flavored broth now being served as a final(before dessert) course.
If you were here at Regency long enough you might remember that the The Regency Dining Club(predecessor to EREA) I ran did a Shabu-Shabu dinner with each of the host families receiving a pot for the cooking; a big success.
Now to the present; the EREA will be going to a local restaurant that
Specializes in a traditional Inner Mongolian hot pot cuisine featuring tabletop cooking served in a metal pot filled separately with two
different broths flavored with herbs and spices (see photo). Their original broth is flavored with Goji berries, black cardamom pods, ginseng and herbs whereas the spicy broth is flavored with chili oil and peppercorns.
The restaurant details: the dinner will be on Monday, April 30th, each diner will be supplied with items to be cooked in either broth and dipped, if desired in the sauce of their choice. The restaurant is BYOB however tea and soft drinks will be served, as requested, as part of the meal. The restaurant can accommodate tables of 4/6/8/10, so that if you wish to hot pot with friends, you may. The cost of the dinner is $40 per person and includes tax and tip.
FIRST ALERT WATER ALARMS
I mentioned in one of my emails that I have water alarms everywhere there are water pipes (undersinks, by the hot water heater, etc). Well lucky us that we were home when an alarm went off under our kitchen sink. The faucet that we pull out to wash around the sink started to leak and the alarm went off immediately. If we had no alarm, who knows how much water would have accumulated without our knowing. I change the batteries in these units at the same time I change my smoke detector batteries.
So as we say, “it is better to be safe than sorry”.

We play duplicate bridge at the clubhouse every Tuesday evening. These games are sanctioned by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) and we award internationally recognized Master points to many of the players each week. We play a social game and welcome players of all skill levels who wish to expand their bridge capabilities. Our games begin at 7:00 PM sharp – but if you want to come, please be at the back ballroom by about 6:45 to allow for checking in. We have the most reasonably priced game around and we include snacks and soft drinks too
